i would imagine they pay over the odds to make sure they they have no competition, also the players will get a handsome chunk of that fee paid, not to mention their agents who are obviously trying to convince their players to move there in the first place. juventus were looking to pay about 30/35m for oscar last season.

A player is worth whatever a club wants to pay.

Andre Ayew cost us a pretty penny, our club record signing. Oscar is better than he is!

Oscar is a quality player, be worth well more than 20 mil Sven.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
A lot of arrogance on this thread. If they continue then why wouldn't it be seen as a major honour to win the league there?

Ignore the finances for a moment and their league has gone from obscurity to being League 1 standard in about a year.

Why couldn't they continue and become Championship standard? Could they invest enough in coaching to make domestic players any good?

I hope they do it and it becomes the place to play. Foreign players come here because 1) the money is huge and 2) it's high standard football.

The slopes have nailed the first bit and are on their way to the second, anyone mocking players for going to the fastest-developing league on the planet just because it isn't the Premier League are exactly what is meant by 'post-96ers'.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
If Chelsea put Oscar up for sale there might be buyers at £20m (which still feels overpriced).
Obviously the player might be tempted by massive salaries that he couldn't get in the 'real' football world.
I don't understand why the fee would be £52m.
It is obviously deeply suspect.

Can anyone explain why the fee is about twice as much as what Chelsea would probably accept from anyone else?

Isn't this just massive money laundering?

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
If the PR position they are trying to push is that they are mugs with too much money to give to players who are past their best they are succeeding.

As I say the only winners are European clubs with dross to offload for silly money.
I sort of imagine Chinese football as a bit like the Kes scene where one big bloke runs round knocking little Chinamen out of the way.
Shanghai United 6 (Drogba 6) v Peking Ducks 5 (Pelle 5)

Sven

It's basically state sponsored, good bit of pr and propaganda for the country. They are trying to play catch up to the other major leagues around the world and the only way to do that quickly is to spend huge amount to attract players.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
This is a massive boon to European clubs.
Real stars wont go and they can offload average players at ludicrous prices.

Valencia for about £20m and Andy Carroll for £40m in the summer? YES PLEASE

Where does the money come from in Chinese football? Noone pays to watch it SURELY.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
No footballer in their right mind would consider the chinese super league a major honour

the reason they have to fire around big money is because there are so many more lucrative leagues in a professional sense

W4Hammer - pretty sure he has as much chance of winning things in China as he does here. He isn't English so won't share your opinion that it's worth more just because it's here and not there.

They're collecting so many big names, and they're not all has-beens. Will the Chinese league end up being second best to the Premier League, with people around the world watching their matches?

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
dont get why a player with anything left in him would do this- he's probably earning £5 Million a year here and is in a chance with winning stuff and has years left to play.

cunt , basically

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
Lavezzi earns something like 400k a week out there, the wages are phenomenal, but you are giving up the chance of winning any decent domestic/european honours.

Re: Oscar off to China for £52M !
The UK Government spent over £3million of taxpayer money on marketing the English Premier League in China, to a lot of outrage and Daily Mail criticism.

The taxes recouped on transfer fees from England to China will have already paid for that, now it's all profit.

Fantastic strategic work from Tracy Crouch MP and the DCMS team.
